I'm currently receiving state health insurance, and other benefits through the state. I clarified before I accepted that it was a part time position. My manager (ClickList) is scheduling me full time. I've talked to him once about it, and he tried to half ass cut my hours down (took a red pen and changed it on the physical paper but not in the system), but I'm still at 33 hours. I need to be working 20 - 25. I know damn well they will not offer me a full time position or health care, so I really need them to honor the part time hours.
Can't get a hold of said manager ever. Apparently he "Comes and goes when he wants" according to shift leads. Tried to call before my shift where I wanted to clarify the hours, and was told by a shift lead that the manager wasnt there, he expected me to work the original schedule, and no one had told him I would be "late". Well I've been coming in 2 hours after my scheduled shift for the last week and no one has said anything about me being late. I told him to check the wall schedule and he said he would not argue with me and hung up. Thankfully I have a picture of the altered schedule on my phone. There are other peoples' schedules that have been altered as well, so I'm not sure what the issue is here?
I tried to reach HR today, but no one answers the phone. Left a message, but not holding my breath.
Is working for Kroger always like this? 3 weeks in and wishing I never even applied.

Yes, it's always like this. Don't let them screw your hours up. Heavily restrict your hours using the website and if they don't approve - that's their own fault. They knew what this was when they hired you,

I mean i hate to be the bad guy, but if you restrict your hours to the point where they can't schedule you when they need you... don't complain when you get little to no hours. People come in and only want 20 hours, so they'll do something like oh i can only work 9am-3pm every day... well if they need a closer, then if they don't schedule you, that's on you.
Tons of people in our store are working full time and don't want to, including myself. There are just not enough people to work, so they schedule the ones that will, and do work, for more hours than we want. You always figure it's temporary, and they'll find some new hires soon, but they never do. I mean, most of the employees there don't work anyhow - don't want to work, call in sick constantly, and/or are always late, or go home early. So, the rest of us have to take up their slack.
Not to mention, I guess you can make a lot more "not working" now.

That's fine by me. If I was working 10 hours a week I wouldn't care. I'm taken care of more the less I work. There's literally no reason for me to work over 30 hours a week, all the extra money I will make will go to health insurance (out of pocket), prescriptions, the goddamn union I will be a member of for less than a year, etc. When I'm working part time, I get SNAP, free state healthcare, and other benefits. I will never get anything out of Kroger, I already know it's impossible to become an actual full time employee here. I'm not working 33 hours a week with 0 full time benefits. That's just stupid, and I feel sorry for anyone who gets talked into doing that.
Where do I go to restrict my hours? I keep looking all over the dumb Express HR website but I don't see anything. I'm going to try again on a laptop instead of mobile.
And if you think 33 hours is part time, I'm not sure what to say to you. 36 is full time, 3 hours less is not "part time", not sure what your manager has been feeding you.

It's under e-schedule. Click the tab that says my availabilty. I always do it at work by going to Enterprise Citrix from the START menu. Sign in and click the Internet Explorer link. Sign in again to bring up Kroger Feed page. There should be a link to E-schedule. Click on "Go to my e-schedule".
Talk to your manager about it. If they can't do it then find a company that is willing to work with you. Trust me kroger isn't willing to help. I've been in that boat. I had the same issue with unemployment.
I worked with a couple highly functioning individuals that were forced to work more than their mandatory 20 hrs a week. They sort of screwed them over for state disability insurance. Manager knew about it too and gave them 40+ hr work weeks. According to their dshs coach they were mentally only able to handle 20-28 hrs at most. Any more and it was obviously too difficult for them to handle and was. Dshs came in and chewed out the manager's ear. Then they had to comply to dshs law or fear a lawsuit.
You can go into eschedule and restrict when you're available.

I can tell you as someone who thinks 40 hours isn't enough time to get things done that Kroger demands every week, 33 hours is definitely part time.

There really isn't any hard limits in escheduler, everything can be overrode by the scheduler, excluding minor labor laws. There are settings that can be entered to limit shift lengths or override the normal total hours settings the company has established.
The original poster sounds like he prefers to mooch off the government. Pathetic.
The OP sounds and clearly stated that he is only able to work 25 hours to get state benefits luke health insurance especially if his job isnt offering what he needs. Also it may be for personal reasons that are not anyone's business.
As far as I can tell, Kroger only does the opposite of whatever you need.
Need fewer hours in order to maintain government benefits? 40 hours.
Need 40 hours to pay ****ing rent? 12 hours.
Final exam week? Mandatory scheduled overtime.
****ing call out. It's not worth it.
Alright, here's what you do:
Get a self-quarantine order from TeleDoc. I mean, you definitely have high blood pressure and asthma and stuff. Get two weeks paid off for free.
The very hour you are back, cuss out ****y customers until you get fired. Get on unemployment and double or triple your ****ing pay for a few months until you have to go back.
Then apply to Walmart and find yourself in the exact same place you were before. Oh well, at least it's not Kroger.
