looks like if "late" coming back kroger docking u had a note like this show up at my store any of you guys?? if u go over the 15 min turns into a lunch punch says payroll can not fix and a grivience was filed anybody else
Stores are getting annoyed at people taking breaks that go 20+ minutes and reducing pay because of it. Stores that clock for breaks are cracking down on this. File a grievance. Breaks are paid. Period. Breaks do not count as your lunch. They are separate entities. My last store fought with us about that and we had to use a 800# free lawyer service to verify that. While an employer has some rights to make a business run employees also have rights to get equal and fair pay.

If they send us on a 15-minute break and we take 30, why should they pay us for that? Aren't we technically stealing time then? Just saying...besides, it pisses me off when another employee takes a long break. That means someone else has to wait for that person to come back before they can go. That's selfish and inconsiderate. If you're given a 15-minute break, come back in 15 minutes. Don't be a jerk!

Agreed. And to avoid customers from pestering you whilst going to the breakroom you can speed walk and ignore them (unless it's a bonafide emergency) and risk pi$$ing them off (they can deal with it), or take your break outside if you can.
Being as I am pretty quick on my feet, I usually make it to the time clock, punch out on break then head either outside or into the breakroom. I come back near the time clock 2-3 minutes before my break is up and then punch in at the 15 min mark.

Where I work the breakroom timeclock is literally on the opposite side of the store. My department is in one corner on the first floor. The breakroom is upstairs in the opposite corner. It takes two to three minutes just to walk to the breakroom and two to three minutes to walk back after break is over. That's without interruptions. So I give people 20 to 25 minutes to go and come back from a break. Anything longer than that is unacceptable unless they're helping a customer. The keyword here being "helping". Stopping to chat with someone is not considered helping.
To me, my break doesn't start when I clock out. My break doesn't start until my butt hits the chair, and it doesn't end until I've been sitting for 15 minutes. Then I get u , clock in, and go back.
So my breaks are over 15 minutes, but I don't care. Breaks are supposed to be a period to rest and I'm going to use the entire 15 minutes to rest, not to be walking to and from the break clock. And if a customer stops me, my breaks don't start until after I'm done helping them and then sit down. Helping a customer isn't a break. If it takes 5 or more minutes to help them then too bad, I'm still taking 15 minutes.
