Company slashed hours to all stores. Every one is feeling the pinch. Availability is generally the option for more hours.
Seniority first. Availability second. If two people have similar seniority the individual with more availability wins.
I hate it but always be on call for hours. This will grantee you cushy hours. Coworkers at my last store hated this because they would get less than 40 hrs a week and I'd generally pull in 50 hr work week. Well sorry I had more availability and you were even asked first. Some times you gotta do what you need to do for income even if it means 6 day work weeks.
The only real option is to seek a management/lead position. Kroger isn't really a place for full-time employment.
You can talk to other nearby stores about filling in if someone calls out, but good luck with that.
You might also check into the 'loser' departments. Our fuel center can give everyone 40 hours because no one wants to be there.
I'd say the best option is to polish up the ol' resume and start looking for a better job.
You may also want to start looking into various degree or certificate programs. You can get some tech certifications after only one class, or even self-study for them.
