Constantly have someone moving a full cart of product across the floor to have to walk across the department to get it back just for 10 minutes later to have to move it again.
Every single time this stops In my way and I have to move a full skid of product out of its way, Im going to take a ****. Every time.
The one they had in our store would get confused and then shut down and then leak cleaning solution all over the floor. They may work fine in a large open room where the obstacles are fixed such as support columns, but not somewhere where there's displays being moved around all the time. It reminds me of those Roomba videos where the device gets stuck behind a toilet and can't get out. The technology just isn't there yet.
I saw the video on these, you just need to know the map they did for this robot. Basically, someone drove the machine around the store and that is its program route, its doesn't have AI or anything.

The problem though is as soon as somebody moves a display, the machine isn't going to know what to do. I know it's programmed to avoid people but people move out of the way on their own. Objects do not.

Well if the person programming the unit was smart they would have planned the route. Say, the unit 1st does produce, deli, meat, FE and only drives the unit it the high traffic areas, where displayed would never be placed. Then say when your all stocked and conditioning the unit then does the grocery aisles......

It does avoid people. The person needs to stand still and it will go around them and try to find its way back onto the route. Although, one night I saw it avoid an obstacle and then do a u turn at u scan and almost hit a customer paying for their stuff. That was a close call.

Night crew has been put in charge of the robot scrubber. I have 5 people trained to run it. One is an airhead. The other four are smart but they don't have any mechanical or common sense.
Ours does have AI. It will go around people and objects and then try to get itself back on the programmed route. Our day grocery manager doesn't have to deal with it so he plants shippers, wings and displays everywhere and moves them constantly.
It was a beautiful plan to save money but it is probably costing more than having a floor crew.
Closing courtesy clerks were supposed to pick up rugs in produce and Starbucks. Then, sweep the entire store. The sweep doesn't happen often. They were also supposed to hand mop weekly against the shelves where the machine can not get.
Produce picks up their rugs because they want their area scrubbed. Then, put them back down in the AM.
Grocery runs stock from closing until the store opens.
The machine is programmed to scrub back wall(meat/Dairy) of store first.
Then, scrub grocery aisles, then Deli/Bakery, then front end, then GM.
It is used manually for in between registers and to clean up messes.
Corporate tracks the usage. They insist 80% robot and 20% manual use.
Well, the floors are uneven. I think it uses the front wheel to measure distance so it knows where its route is and when to make a turn. If it stops over a dip in the floor, it can't restart unless someone gently pushes it. It thinks it is 20 feet further than it really is on the route because the front wheel was spinning in the air.
The machine is run whether the floors are swept or not.
No one knows how to take care of a vacuum cleaner hose. Our suction hose is kinked.
We had 2 special brushes to scrub the backroom. Well, after 8 months, only one can be found.
It is supposed to take 4 hours to do our entire Market Place in robot mode. My clerks spend 2 hours helping the robot during that 4 hours. It texts them when it needs help and sends a picture of the last view. Well, the camera doesn't always send a pic. They can't remember which route they sent it to do. They can clean the floors manually in 2 hours.
