Seriously? Over lunch?!?

Today I got called into managers office right after I got clocked in. Manager has another person in there with him and has me sit down. Already, I KNOW it's bad. He asks me if I took my lunch at 3:15-3:45. I say No, i took it at 4:15-4:45.  (Let it be known that my schedule was 12:15-7:00; my lunch 3:15-3:45) so management asks Why? I politely explain that lunch 3 hours after my start time is TOO early. He then proceeds to tell me that it's not my decision to say that 3 hour lunch after starting a shift is "too early" and that it was done like that for a reason. 

 

I wasnt written up, but warned that lunches MUST be taken as scheduled. I find this ridiculous. Of all the things MORE IMPORTANT than choosing to take a lunch at four hours instead of 3, they choose to overreact about a lunch time. Am I wrong to feel this way? But lunch 3 hours after I start is too early in my opinion

Your lunches are scheduled??  We just go whenever in my department. It used to cause a lot of drama back when I first started out, but things have calmed down.

 guess it depends what dept you work. I was overnight and could take it whenever but i never took hour lunches I got off at 6 instead of 7.

If you work on the front end or a service counter, you need to take it when scheduled in order to make sure there is coverage for the department.

On the other hand, you could call the union and have them find out why all the departments do not have specifically scheduled lunches.

 Because other departments are more task oriented.  A frozen food person doesn't walk off and leave a pallet of ice cream on the floor just because it's lunch time.  A person working in the meat department doesn't stop in the middle of stocking the case just because it's lunch time.  A baker doesn't go off and leave bread in the oven just because it's lunch time.  The backdoor person doesn't go off and leave vendors waiting just because it's lunch time.  i could go through every non-front end department but you get the picture.

I work in the pharmacy from 11:30 am to 8pm. We take no breaks, but the whole pharmacy takes lunch from 1:30-2:00 every day...so I work 2 hours, take a lunch, then pull 6 hours in a row with no break....go figure.

I forgot to take my lunch recently because I had too much to do. Nothing ever came of it.

I understand.  But millennials like to fuss and raise a stink so I was helping them out.  Making it easy for them.

I work overnight grocery.  I take my breaks around the needs of the business.
