I worked at kroger for a year, and I notice that as time goes by we lack more and more baskets. Its to the point that customers come to me and I have to give them the baskets from the lane blockers. My store manger said he has tried to order baskets more than 3 times but due to unknown reasons it hasnt delivered or possible that Kroger doesnt want to give us the money for new ones. I like to know if anybody else has had this problem and how we could fix it in our store as this is be coming a very big problem, as we are a very busy store, with lost of angry customers.
Most likely they are not wanting to spend the $$ on them. Normally, most stores need to order 100 a year to replace normal usage.
Must be because Kroger doesn't want to spend the money on them. Money spent for gobs of stupid TV advertising of the Krojis is SO much more important!!
Although my store seems to have a lot of baskets. And they hold up pretty well, I honestly do not see them getting broken, or the handles falling off. At stores where they don't have enough, I assume they are being stolen.
That reminds me one day I walked into Walmart and did not see even ONE basket. I really wanted a basket because I needed only a few items and didn't want to push a cart around the store. I asked where all the baskets were at, and the lady told me they get stolen so much that Walmart got tired of replacing them. They had ordered hundreds at at a time, and now they were ALL gone!! That was her story anyway.

Judging by the type of people I've seen walking into Walmart and from what I've seen on tv, I can believe it.

Baskets are the easiest thing to use to run out the store with items. You can simply throw the basket in the car and off you go. Also, with the size and items Walmart carries, I would say the have also decided not to provide baskets based on trying to increase the number of items being purchased. Your more likely to get additional items if you don't have to carry them, just push them around in a cart with plenty of room.

You think you had it bad at Kroger? Even before Covid destroyed the sanity of the world, I was NEVER able to find a basket at Wal-Mart. It was like they had phased them out or hidden them all in a storage closet in a back room somewhere or something.

Thats a load of ****, fake new.
Tell me. Is a side-effect of Covid memory loss and dimentia? Because I want to be able to logically explain why you would write something so stupid.
Several years ago in my store we had to start attaching security tags to all of our baskets because so many would get stolen. Now if you try to walk out the store with one, the door alarms go off and our loss prevention person will ask you to turn in your basket.
On a related note, we also have some of our shopping carts stolen. As a matter of fact, a few weeks ago a lady "found one" while she was walking to our store, so she ever so nicely brought it back...and demanded a REWARD! Our person at SCO told her we didn't give out rewards for bringing back shopping carts. She got pissed and asked to speak to a manager. Our ASM came down and talked to her. She demanded a reward, and he told her that the only thing he could offer her was a high five! SHE WAS PISSED!!!! I died...this manager is my hero! By the way, she is NEVER...let me repeat, NEVER coming back to our store...and she spends THOUSANDS of dollars with us every week. I can't understand how she can possibly spend that much money when she usually pays with her Food Stamp card, but whatever.

Wow cool I hope she finds another store. Im sure you'll see her next week
it looks like you're talking about buggies/shopping carts. those are hard to get. god forbid you have the gatekeeper wheel locking security system and have to wait for someone to come install wheels
black hand baskets can be ordered with supplies every week. they vanish quickly. it's crazy

ALL stores will eventually have Gatekeeper in both lot and door capacities. In my area they installed the locking mechanism at the door and didn't install the lot part of the system, they are now installing the lot mechanism. In reality, Gatekeeper at the doors does stop large push outs, but only causes people to run out of the store with hand baskets full of stuff. We had multiple people pop open an Emergency Exit on the far ends of the stores multiple times. A few actually went into the backroom and then used the Clicklist/Pickup door to exist the store.

ugh at my old store their bright idea was to put the security tags on them so they don't leave the main area but THEY WERE NORMALLY STORED IN THE VESTIBULE. So there was about a week of constant alarm beeping bc customers would take the baskets to the lobby to put them there. At least their beeper didn't start talking like my new store does. "sorry, it appears we have failed to remove a security tag yadda yadda" but it's mostly unintelligible.
