Have any of you had your store close for what ever reason, and you had to be transfered to another one? What have been the affects of that? We lost one of our four in my city and the closest one to where it was has doubled in both employees and customer traffic----but with limited space and no where to expand.
In 2009 the Kroger store that I worked at in Indianapolis closed. In our case the next store was 2-3 miles away. This store was also getting a pretty resizable remodel. I chose a store about 12 miles away.
It really all depends on the store closing and what stores are around it. In most situations if a store is closing their sales were not too impressive or the building cost/expenses/remodel are not cost effective. If a location is profitable, steady sales, growth potential a store will be located there or very close depending on building/land costs. If your currently location took on so much sales, I'm sure they are looking at options. In reality, if your location is closing, take is as a fresh start somewhere else, you basically get to pick your transfer location without any questions asked.
6 Stores total right before I moved there, and 3 stores now. 3 stores closed in a 3 year span.
With limited options for that many people getting displaced they did it by seniority (for the most part, there were exceptions like me).
So say a Grocery department head had 8 years in a store that closed down, he could bump another Grocery Department head with less time off his spot in those 3 remaining stores. This happens with every single position so there is a lot of chaos and shuffling around. I got bumped by someone with less seniority than me because they knew I was moving soon anyways (oops on me for letting them know ahead of time, now I know better). They would force this choice on you by offering you one spot in a store close to you, or one spot in a store 150 miles away or something silly. They also give no explanation or proof of how they are making these choices.
It hasn't (because I could only afford a car from receiving inheritance), but it would affect a lot of employees if my store did close.
My store is semi-ghetto and many employees don't have cars. If my store closed, it would mean employment within a convenient radius rather than Kroger again.
Maybe a third, possibly half?
Kroger is a terrible company to work for. You can do better. I know it.
