i have thought about purchasing vacation days thru the open enrollment for health insurance but i was afraid there would be some kind of caveat or something. has anyone done this?

pharmacy is not on the union insurance. yes, they take money out of your check but you can take the vacation days you pay for and get paid for fulltime
you get a certain amount deducted from your check per week. you are paying for extra vacation days. said vacation days work exactly the same as the vacation days you earn every year. except you get paid for them with the money that is deducted from your check.
i get two weeks vaca per year but if i allow the deduction i'll get three weeks

That's not a vacation. That's time off without pay. The only difference is the money is being deducted first. It may be a little at a time, but in the end you're still losing a week's pay.

Correct. If your store is union, you should get vacation days. I would NEVER allow the store to charge for vacation days.
