I have 1 whole week of vacation to take, do I have to take it before the end of this year? Does it expire? My original vacation plans have been derailed due to the pandemic, so I wanted to take it next year instead, hopefully if things get better.
Sometimes you can take a vacation in January if it's still the same fiscal year. I don't know if all Krogers are the same but where I am the fiscal year begins in February and consists of thirteen 4-week periods. The thirteenth period is in January. I've known a few people who have taken a vacation in January and have it applied to the previous year since it's still the same fiscal year. Once the thirteenth period is over however it's too late. If you can't do that, then I suggest the week after Thanksgiving or maybe the week after that. It's after the Thanksgiving rush and before the Christmas rush.
Talk to your AA. In my area you can split up your last week of vacation as personal days. So you can work for five days and use personals on your two days off for additional income. So if youre full time that would in theory be a 56 hour paycheck.
We usually have from the time we put in for vacation until close to the end of december. After the cutoff date, we get paid out. Then the whole choose a vacation week(s) start anew. It's not that baf.
The only thing that p*sses us off is when someone with lesser seniority gets bumped from their vacation, and they end up taking it anyway despite it being bumped from them.
Management just shrugs and says, "well, they're already gone so I cant do anything."
