My store has about 5-8 call outs a day. Is that normal?
I know the job sucks but you are given a job and half the people don't want to work it. Management won't hold people accountable for their actions. I have good attendance and rarely call out if at all and management was thrilled to have a reliable worker. That shows up, wants to work and doesn't do less than a half @$$ed job. I'm a gen y millennial and let's face it the kids these days don't have the same work ethic. It's a miracle half these people are still employed. a normal job let's just face it they wouldn't last long.

lol. That is normal at my store. We had the attendance reset 4 or 5 times last year during the covid outbreak. Some of my crew was so close to being terminated several times and then the attendance was reset. We got a new store manager 5 months ago. He was livid that the attendance was reset under his leadership and promised to me that he would do better. He has done better and a few people have been terminated due to attendance. But, there is a rumor that attendance might be reset again soon because they kept track of call ins but not tardiness.
2020 was a rough year. I get it. People were concerned about getting sick and not sure if they should be at work. It is time to move on and be thankful that we were employed during 2020. Many people are in terrible condition financially because of the shut downs. Covid was a major world event. We will get thru it and we need to move on from it.
Now that companies are starting to reopen and minimum wages/starting wages have increased, people are starting to go back to work. Our store is losing people because they found better paying jobs elsewhere and they don't like the store manager. One highly skilled coworker(CSM) with 22 years gave up her 5 weeks vacation just to go work for walmart.
I am Generation X. It is true the younger generations don't have the same work ethic. They want top dollar easy money fast. The world doesn't work like that for everyone especially at Kroger.

Unfotunally this is pretty standard on average I have 3 to 4 people call out or who want to go home early. I just had 2 people change their availability but were warned that they have to work there already scheduled shifts before that goes into effect!! It's getting pretty frustrating people who don't want to work and I have to work 12 to 16 hour days.

Why the hell should people make a effort when the pay is so low for that kinda work they expect? Lol work ethic.. no such thing. youre a slave and the people calling out are the wiser.
I really wonder if they have done a complete study on costs of not raising wages, but having high turn over. Yes, wages are the highest expense for a retailer, but the costs to hire a steady flow of workers is also a high expense. Why can you go to Costco, Target and see the same (older) workers time and time again, but you go into our stores and always see different minors day after day? Yes, you can pay less, but don't expect the same productivity, so schedule more. Or you can pay a little more, hire someone more long term and get more productivity. I also never understood why any Manager would hired someone just for the "summer", your just causing yourself to do more hiring and training.
Seems to be increasing. There are lots of reasons. Pandemic restrictions lifting and there are better things to do. Economy starting to boom and a job interview might make a nice break. The standard scheduled events plus unexpected emergencies but you work at a ____ company that will never let you have a requested day off.

Who cares? Do you pay their bills? Just mind your own business and go to work. No doubt youre one of the busy body losers of that store.your breath probably smells like ass and penis with all that suckin up
It's easy to say dont worry about other people calling in. But when you are in a department that relies on TEAMWORK then it very much is my business when you call in and leave your people hanging. We are so short stafged, when someone calls in, ther is no one to replace them. But we are still expected to get the work done. With no overtime!
