Do you ever wonder if there is something shady going on with the "overwhelmingly" yes votes on some of these contracts. I just find it hard to believe when everyone you talk to about it voted no.
Unless the local Union doesn't support the contact its always a YES. Which UFCW has went on strike recently? the Union is a business, while they say they are their to protect their members, in reality they are really protecting their LARGER salaries. If your one to complain about a CEO getting paid too much, look at the salaries of the local UFCW Presidents. I believe my local president makes 15X the salary of a normal FT clerk.

More correctly, you should have written "Everyone you talk to about it TELLS US they voted no. Hey, I don't believe half the Kroger employees. They pretend that they voted NO, but in an anonymous election who is to know how many of them probably voted YES because they are spineless cowards. All of these threatened strikes are phony, insincere and amount to nothing. Meanwhile Kroger Corporate laughs up their sleeve at in-store rank and file employees who cow down to the corrupt Union thugs.
Original poster here. To answer the question if there has ever been a UFCW strike, the answer is yes, about 10 years ago. I think it was at a Food4Less and Local 1996 emptied out their strike fund and sent it to them. To this date the strike fund has remained empty.
