Hi there, Im a reporter at the New York Times. Im trying to learn about how workplaces, including Kroger and elsewhere, are using software to track their employees productivity.
Do you, your friends, or family have any experience working in jobs where your performance how quickly youre working, or how much you get done is tracked in real-time? (e.g. elms scores, etc.)
Would you be willing to talk to me on the phone about how these systems work? Please DM me here or email me at arya(dot)sundaram(at)nytimes(dot) com.
Note: If retaliation is a concern at all, I'm happy to keep your name confidential and speak to you on background. I never publish peoples' names without their explicit consent. We just want to understand what's really happening behind-the-scenes at major companies and the everyday pressures that workers face.

Kroger stinks. But the New York Times won't say much about that because you sympathize with the big money-hungry "woke" corporations, and that includes Kroger, a Fortune 500 company. And since Kroger paid MILLIONS of dollars for a stupid "Kroji animated creepy dolls" promotional ad campaign that was thought up by an over-rated ad agency in Manhattan, you will certainly tread carefully and not hurt Kroger's feelings.
I know there are some nice, decent, hardworking people at the New York Times, but that newspaper, in general, is a hard-left-leaning, communist-sympathizing, anti-American propaganda machine if there ever was one. You pick and choose which stories you want to PROMOTE, but on others you IGNORE, or SPIN to help prop up your chosen narrative.
Case in point: The HUGE increase in Fentanyl and other opioid drug use overdoses and deaths.......over 100,000 overdose deaths this year in the United States. You will publish those numbers but YOU WILL NOT DO YOUR JOB as a responsible, ethical, inquisitive, questioning journalist and tell the American people that much of those illegal drugs are pouring into the country because of the poor security conditions along our southern border with Mexico, which is now a direct result of Biden and Harris and their unofficial OPEN DOOR POLICY FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS!!! You sidestep the issues that are confronting the American people.
You look at everything through a biased RACE LENS. If a white man kills a black man, in your reporting you constantly and blaringly use the adjectives BLACK MAN, WHITE MAN, BLACK MAN, WHITE MAN............etc etc. You quickly point out the race of the person if a black man was killed unjustly.
That would be fine and good and upstanding IF you reported everything evenly, in a "level playing field" kind of way. Instead, you change your method of reporting if the case is reversed............. say, if the shoe is on the other foot, and if this is a case of a Black man who kills a white person (or persons), now, suddenly NOT A SINGLE WORD IS SAID ABOUT THE RACE OF THE accused perpetrator!! This is corruption, propaganda and a false narrative that you actively promote for your readers. Much of your slanted reporting is repeated (obediently, like a mockingbird repeating soundbytes/phrases, without any objectivity) by other mainstream network news sources like ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC and CNN.
Just an example: the Black man who just killed 6 people and injured about 70 others in Waukesha, Wisconsin has blood on his hands. Have you wrote much about the case? No, not much. Did you mention his race? No, but if it had been a white man who mowed down 80 totally innocent Black people who were minding their business enjoying a holiday parade, you would have mentioned his race in about the first two sentences from the beginning of your article.
Are you going to explore Darrell Brooks' motives? Are you going to publish stories about his hateful Anti-white viatribes on social media? Will you mention that he is a registered sex offender in Nevada? Are you going to mention he has been a career criminal for 22 years, since 1999? Will you tell the truth that he tried to kill his own girlfriend by running over her with his red SUV just recently, and got out on a low bail? No, you will stay quiet. Because it doesn't jibe with your racist, pro-criminal , pro-crime, pro-illegal, pro-Democrat, pro-liberal and pro-Biden viewpoints.
In reality no news organization is going to do any hard hitting news stories against any larger organization (less its on the scale of complete scandal). In reality, any news story written should just be about workplace automation and the side effects on existing worker base. But again, automation has been occurring for years and isn't anything new. I guess in todays times, it should be story about workplace automation, worker increased performance goals, worker fatigue and then added side effects of the pandemic. There is a reason why people quit days/weeks after starting a job, plus its not hard to basically jump jobs every month. Hell, previously a company wouldn't hire someone with 3-5 jobs in the last year, now they will hire just about anyone applying.
OH....remember how news organizations actually make $$$....AD sales...
If any of you have in-depth information about ELMS feel free to contribute. I know that it tracks store income and translates a portion of that into employee hours with the scheduling software and budget.

Shame on the New York Times .
OMG please open your mind to other points of view. Came here to read some Kroger employee comments and news and get this diatribe of nonsense. Welp. I won't be staying here. Dumbass. You're life won't get any better if you truly believe these things. To say that the majority of Americans are pro-crime is just a stupid stupid statement to make. Do you ever listen to yourself or do you just blab on and on about how you've been wronged?

Its doesn't necessarily track sales, but rather tracks items movement and or item production to equate what amount of hours should have been used for the sales. Depending on the department there are a minimal number of hours guaranteed regardless of sales/items sold/production, which is determine by staffing/corporate guidelines. There are also "fixed" hours for normal everyday tasks (ex. cleaning). Selling a $.59 can of green beans basically earns you the same number of hours as selling a $299.99 KitchenAid mixer. Schedules are forecasted again previous weeks or week with the same expected traffic patterns, and then after the week you either MAKE your ELMS or MISS. Store Managers are expected to either try ADD hours (getting people to come in that are not scheduled) or try to eliminate hours depending on the sales that are actually happening in the week.
A cashier scanning an item on the Front End earns a fraction of second per item for the Front End (Cashier, Bagger, Supervisor, Cart/Basket retrieval) and a fraction of a second for department the item is assigned to. An item scanned at SCO earns a fraction of a second for the specific department the item is assigned to and might earn a fraction of a second for the Front End (Cart/Basket retrieval).

Yes. They have what are called "fixed hours" and "variable hours". Corporate sets forth the fixed hours, but over the years have chopped alot of it to zero. Variable hours something the store manager controls. They must abide to a budget based upon wages and labor. Hire and schedule too much or using too much overtime essentially can get the store manager reprimanded or fired. Also, these hours are also generated 2 to 3 weeks prior to the actual schedule. What happens often in the departments is when they do distributions and they do alot of them, we do not get hours credited because it is stuff that wasn't ordered by us. They also have something called "actual hours earned". These are hours that show what you've earned versus what your people worked.
