I'd like your thoughts/stories on how this pandemic has affected you and your job---i.e., the mandatory masking, vaccine push, short staffing / store supplies, etc.
I'd also like your feedback on how many stores across the country all of a sudden went to debit or credit only.
And last, let's get your reaction to all this inflation which curiously didn't blow out til the second year of this pandemic.
Well for starters I think this so called pandemic is bs. And everything we've seen in retail and society at large since has been a bs product of that. It's all socialist / one world order control, and that 'vaccine' is a kill switch population reducer, mark my words.
as for the end of cash and coin yea that too is part of the whole system. Cash and coin are anonymous. But every swipe of your card brings a record trail---and a new form of taxation. On $$ youve already paid taxes on!
It's gonna get very. very ugly with no end in sight. Sorry if this wasn't the answer you were looking for, but it's the only honest one I have.
I have just enough seniority to work a moderately consistent closing shift.
Getting off work so late, it hasn't affected me terribly much. Everything was closed already. If I planned ahead and woke up early, lines were often so long it just meant gas station chips and malt liquor for dinner regardless.
Being offsite, we generally don't have direct management and mandatory masking was never really a thing. A particular store employee actually ended up picking up shifts here simply because she didn't feel like wearing a mask.
The vaccine push wasn't a thing beyond vague suggestions of maybe just maybe there's a $100 bonus if the HR manager isn't too hungover or too busy and doesn't hate you. Turns out she is too busy and hung over every day which is why she hates you.
We've had absolutely no push towards card only. The only contactless form of payment we accept is Samsung Pay. Kroger Pay technically exists, but fuel doesn't have the scanner for it. In store, it's so unreliable they honestly shouldn't. We get handfuls and ashtrays of uncounted random loose change all day every day the whole time, and we have to count and accept them. The elderly that covid didn't get LOVE to lick their fingers before counting out exact change, and we've never been allowed to tell them to go to hell.
Short staffing has always been a continuous nightmare for at least a decade or two, as the largest controllable cost is employee hours. If the store decides not to pay power or rent, there's consequences. If they cut hours, Rodney gets at least a 15% or 20% raise and a multi-million dollar bonus. The difference now is that entry level fast food pays as much as Kroger management. Anyone who can do better does, which results in a concentration of children, retirees, and defective adults.
Store supplies have always been a problem. Even pre-pandemic, it was a controllable cost to be reduced regardless of use. They did, but forgot that we can E40 products. The worst part is that generic E40-ed items work better than official products.
The inflation is concerning, sure, but it's nowhere near as bad as the real estate problem. Paying a bit more for food, booze, and gas is a bummer, sure, but I probably need to cut back on at least two of those.
Rent going up by half means that I need to get a horrifically better job by March unless I want to live in my car. That wouldn't be so bad if my transmission weren't going.

I'm really surprised more hasn't been made of the rental housing market, rents have ween up so much in the last 10 years and wages haven't! A larger group of society didn't understand why people purchased houses they couldn't afford, well the people being 100K-200K houses were buying them because it was cheaper then paying rent! In the next few months the number of people on the street will be insane, if you didn't pay your mortgage during COVID due to job lose, etc., you don't have any options other then to caught it up, or if your lucky your bank might refinance and or push the load out further. With all the new "tech" jobs pushing yearly income up, all markets are reflecting those wages, not the "normal" everyday jobs. Hell, people complain about taxes, but do they not understand the US was basically "modernized" in the 1950's are stuff is old and at the end of life basically.
Mandatory masking: I'm night crew, so there's maybe an hour or two at the end of my shift where I have to half-ass wear it because upper management is in. Otherwise, nobody cares to wear it when the drones aren't there to write you up.
Vaccine push: Any push you feel is purely social pressure. As far as I've heard, Kroger hasn't said anything about introducing the mandate for employees, and I'm pretty sure that's because they're conservative up top. I'm guessing Biden wasn't honestly expecting the mandate to go through, but wanted to put it out there anyway just to scare people into getting it. I didn't fall for it. If the mandate goes through, and the weekly tests aren't free (maybe I'd be willing to pay up to $20; this can't go on long) I'm seriously considering quitting this job over it, and I've been here for more than a decade.
Short staffing: Yeah. My dairy department is almost non existent, as is freezer, so guess who gets to stock three departments!
Store supplies: Grocery doesn't deal with any "supplies" but food, so I'm not sure what you mean. I've read a couple articles claiming the national truck driver shortage is a myth.
Card payments only: I've yet to see this anywhere. I still pay with cash, unless I forget to go to the ATM.
Inflation: It takes a bit of time for the economy to react to money being printed. I'm not surprised by any of it.

Mandatory masking: Luckilily we have a store manager who isn't a stickler for wearing masks except when dealing with customers. I frequently see her out on the sales floor without one covering her face. We've had three maybe four people over the course of almost two years test positive for Covid, and they all got it from their families not from the store.
Vaccine push: Let's see, we have a vaccine that doesn't keep you from getting the virus. It doesn't keep you from spreading the virus. It's caused more adverse reactions and deaths than all other vaccines. Even Pfizer had to admit they lied about the number deaths during their trials. There are too many connections between the drug companies, the Biden administration, the CDC, Fauci, the Liberal mainstream media, and the Wuhan lab in China for it to be a coincidence. I don't have to read conspiracy theories to know that the whole plot is to convert the United States and other Western nations to Communism. I mean the plan comes directly form Karl Marx. You create a problem. You isolate people, You instill fear. Then you convince them that the only solution to the problem that you created is to do what they say. I'm praying that the mandate is stopped by the courts, but if it doesn't I am not getting tested even if it's free. OSHA doesn't have enough people to check every business with over 100 employees. So they're relying on people to snitch on their employers. So I'm not saying a word to anybody about my vaccination status unless I'm asked by management. If I have to I'll take a leave of absence. No matter what, I will not comply. I simply do not trust any of those people and nothing will make me change my mind.
Inflation: Even a person with just a basic understanding of economics knows that if you saturate the system with cash without any goods being produced, you're going to have inflation. It's supply and demand. Why aren't people working? It's because of all the Covid mandates. People lost their jobs either because the business they worked for had to close or they stood up for their rights and refused to get the vaccine.

Original author here. To the above respondent, you and I are thinking 100% alike. I don't know how much good that's going to do either of us ultimately against this socialist domination army, but it's encouraging to see at least some other freedom fighters are out there. Thank you for the uplifting reponses.
Mandatory masking: My store has gone to requiring masks, however most people pull them down/take them off completely. All management has done is pass out Kroger masks, which are surprisingly comfortable, and remind people who aren't wearing them at all. I wear one partially just because of the social connotations of not wearing them, not because I think they work.
Vaccine push: I don't wanna blindly distrust the vaccine, but the total suppression of any opposing view point has made me extremely distrustful, not to mention all of the side effects and the fact that it just doesn't work. I don't wanna put a bunch of in me for no reason and then find out later that it is harmful five years down the road. All that to say, I haven't heard anything about an enforced vaccine mandate for Kroger and I would not be happy if I did, and I know that there are others at my store who would rather quit than get vaccinated.
Short staffing: Most definitely. I work front end and we are running on skeleton crew. When I close I sometimes stay until almost midnight cleaning and working on go backs since no one had a chance to do it. And of course it's worse with the holidays, more people ncns to add to the exponential growth in customers and bad attitudes.
Store shortages: Also a big problem, and it's random things like produce bags and even plastic bags for the front end which really slows things down, but we are out of a ton of stuff.
Card only: All of our u scans keep breaking and only accepting cash, and when people fix them, they hardly last a shift, but this is not on principle, it's just how it goes.

THIS ^. You nailed it. That's exactly the score here; as time is progressing and more and getting woke, the evil mfkers behind it all are ramping up the mandates and are bullying the sht out of already frightened and angry people. And because they know things are ultimately heading towards a revolution, much effort is being made to suppress social media communication---and make examples of anyone even believed to be associated with rebellion against them.
That's why we're still seeing this drag net on the DC insurrection. I'm not necessarilly for what happened there, but I completely understand why it happened.
So yea. For me? No mask / no vax. One of my jobs is health care and both hospitals in my town have given us til Dec. 6 to get the shot or be considered 'resigned' by the 22nd (What bs. This way you can't even get your deserved unemployment $$). This, in spite of being regularly tested, found negative, already STILL having to wear masks, always wearing gloves, etc.
Anyone believing this is about public safety or saving lives is hopelessly owned. This is about Socialism and control.

SO plz excuse me, but I want to talk a bit about this "Insurrection".
Remember that throughout most of the summer of 2020, after the George Floyd murder, tens of thousands of people used that as an excuse to get out and rampage, riot, burn down businesses, shoot and kill people, and cause BILLIONS of dollars in damage to the inner neighborhoods of MANY cities across the nation, including Portland, OR, San Francisco, Seattle, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Columbus, OH, New York City, Houston, Atlanta, Louisville, KY, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Detroit, and many others.
Most of the destruction, mayhem and crime wave was HUSH HUSHED on the national mainstream media. Many Americans outside those major cities did not know this was happening because the news services did not report on them honestly and thoroughly. The media claimed they were just "PEACEFUL PROTESTS -- nothing to see here".
To this day, over a year and a half later, UNTOLD THOUSANDS of rioters, looters and (yes) armed people who assaulted others HAVE NEVER BEEN CHARGED because the political systems within those Democratic-party-controlled major cities (in tacit cooperation with the mainstream media) SIDED WITH with those rioters and looters. Most news networks and news websites do NOT talk about those months of rioting........it is almost forgotten.
Now, compare that with the so-called capitol "Insurrection". If you were actually watching LIVE TV that day, (as I did) you would have seen gobs of people, including old grandmas, grandpas, people of every age, color, race, just casually walking around outside and inside, taking selfies, some of them just standing around not doing much of anything, there were also huge crowds of people on the steps and verandas waving flags, shouting their support of Donald Trump. (Donald Trump had clearly said to "PROTEST PEACEFULLY AND PATRIOTICALLY) but the mainstream media doesn't want you to know that is what he actually said). When the doors were opened to the Capitol building (there are several conflicting stories, but at least SOME of the people were invited in and then a stampede started) thousands of people, including, yes, some hundreds of them who were trouble makers and wanted some violence, poured into the building. Some of the police officers were assaulted and injured by the worst of the troublemakers.
I have seen some of the Capitol building security camera footage. There are many views and vantage points........ It shows hundreds of people slowing walking here and there, and here and there, in all directions, many of them holding their cellphones, taking selfies, chatting with each other, some nonchalantly looking up and around at all the room decor, photos on the walls, etc, like typical DC tourists on a field trip or guided tour.
The mainstream news and the FBI are trying to label this as something it is not. YES, some small percentage of those people (a few hundred) were rioters and they went into the building to cause trouble and hurt some of the police inside. The ONLY person who died violently was a woman, a Trump supporter, named Ashley Babbit. She was shot and killed by a Capitol policeman when she tried to climb through a window. Four other people died in the days following, all non-violent deaths including a drug overdose and a heart attack.
BUT the great, great majority of the thousands of people there were just peacefully walking around, holding flags, looking at stuff, yakking with each other, etc.
Much of the security camera footage is still being kept "locked up" in an effort to keep up a false narrative that everyone was rioting.
Even now, on most of the news programs (CBS, NBC, CNN, ABC, etc) every time they show some of the clips on TV of the "insurrection" they show the same short, violent clips of people ramming through doors, pouring through and rioting, but it is the same footage shown over and over again, trying to keep the false narrative going that "EVERYBODY" was going crazy and rioting inside the building which was NOT true.
The "Shaman" the guy with the painted bare hairy chest and horns on his head, was actually unarmed and did NO damage, hurt no one, and took some selfies in the main room. he has now been SENTENCED to 41 months (about 3 and one half years) in prison for a MISDEMEANOR!!!! He was charged with TRESPASSING!!!!
That is so totally unfair. We know of MURDERERS that get a lighter sentence than that one!!!!
The mainstream media and the court system in DC is so corrupt and deceptive. They are so Pro-Biden and Anti-Trump and that includes doing ANYTHING to make it seem like Biden is an angel and Trump is the devil and so are his followers.

Completely agree. I was trying to be 'pc' in my wording, but you summed it up better
no cash, credit debit only? **** em do what i do. steal everything
It says on every bill, "THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE"
Is that open to interpretation nowadays?
Everything is. The US Constitution and Bill of Rights have been being eroded away and re defined for decades. Fact is, this whole so called democracy is a flimsy facimile of what it started off as and was intended for.
People need to understand not everything isn't covered by the Constitution or Laws, and you can't file a lawsuit on everything. Oh.......and business can determine whatever they want to do PERIOD, well as long as its not illegal, unethical, or a compete safety hazard. With that being said, with any choices a business makes, they take the good and bad with everything.
Here is a site a found, if you want business to take Government Currently, would you listen to the Government if they say their is a coin circulation issue? getcoinmoving.org/
Vaccine push: I don't have to read conspiracy theories to know that the whole plot is to convert the United States and other Western nations to Communism.
No need to read others when you can make one up for yourself.

One of the big problems we have at SCO is that the machines tend to run out of cash and go "Card Only".
The machines don't announce it well and we aren't allowed to make signs, so the customers just can't figure it out.
That causes so much trouble we have to close the "Card Only" machines outright.
Well, that's just stupid. A customer paying with cash waits in line for a U-Scan to open and when one does, it turns out not to be accepting cash. What is that customer suppose to do? Get back in line hope to get lucky the next time? Our store has pre-printed signs that say no cash transactions should the need arise. The print is large enough so customers can see it while they're still in line
Well for starters I think this so called pandemic is bs. And everything we've seen in retail and society at large since has been a bs product of that. It's all socialist / one world order control, and that 'vaccine' is a kill switch population reducer, mark my words.

It's gonna get very. very ugly with no end in sight. Sorry if this wasn't the answer you were looking for, but it's the only honest one I have.
You say, it's a "kill switch population reducer", but it seems to me that the ones who are suffering the most are the anti-vaxxers and the most VIRULENTLY LOUD ones at that...For instance...
Those are just some...There will be more I'm sure...At the same time, we have to look at who was vaccinated and who was not...And also, I have a feeling that there are a lot more people who have gotten vaccinated, but out of fear for telling their families and starting fights, they haven't said a word about it and I'd bet that there are quite a lot of those out there, too...We don't know the whole story...
Meanwhile, this is what happened to those who quit their jobs and refused the vaccine...
Cash and coin are synonymous, yes, but where does that leave cryptocurrency?
There are a lot of questions we have to ask ourselves for which there are no clear answers to yet...THAT, I know...
At the same time, I don't care what anyone thinks...Got my two shots, got my booster and didn't have hardly any issues...Can't say the same for others I know who haven't even gotten one shot yet, however...And no, I don't waste as much time these days listen to idiots on the news prattle on about this and that...And I'm probably healthier for it, physically AND mentally, NOT listening to every news show or network out there, regardless of left, right or center...I just turned it all off completely! To me, it's a lot of noise...I'll get my news from many other sources, as I read a lot, check multiple sources online and use my brain a little bit more than the average person, but all that noise does is just make one paranoid, esp. if you're surrounded by it 24/7 and also, when it's on social media all the time...Screw Facebook and it's algorithms! Screw social media in general! We need to think for ourselves, people, and not let all these other loud voices do the thinking for us!
Well, if it DOES turn out to be very harmful down the road, MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS of people have taken the vaccines already...Some who say they haven't probably already have and just haven't told anyone, for fear of the backlash...You have to wonder why so many people would do something THAT STUPID on PURPOSE, if they didn't believe there was something more to them...Millions of people think aborting/killing a baby is wrong, but those same people would kill themselves by taking a vaccine that they know to be deadly and harmful??? Think about that for a second and use some common sense...The math on that one just doesn't add up...

You just illustrated the point he was making with that very passage
You say, it's a "kill switch population reducer", but it seems to me that the ones who are suffering the most are the anti-vaxxers and the most VIRULENTLY LOUD ones at that...For instance...

All of the sources you posted are from the far left. So much for looking at all sides.
The Kroger here, there are so many CARD ONLY signs that you'd think we had abolished currency completely. I don't know why your Kroger isn't allowed to make signs. That's bullcrap.

I just steal about 70% of my stuff. The anti-cash n coin policy has been very profitable for me.
As I predicted it would when I started this thread, this thing has evolved into a political-flavored tits-out argument. Which btw way is the REAL virus: politics. Some how it's infected every aspect of out lives, and the very idea of believing these people are actually running anything, or that we have any influence on the outcomes of their actions, is as ridiculous as fighting over favorite sports teams.
I would care to remind yall of one simple thing, tho. This IS still a free country. None of us are hostages. Wear what ever you wanna wear, inject yourselves with what ever you wish to.
And the rest of us will not. And we'll all leave each other alone. It's that simple.
