I have noticed for a few months there are fewer shopping carts than they used to be. At this Location and many other I see on Google Maps. There are more broken carts behind the store than they have for people to use. I went in Kroger today and was lucky a cart was by my car. I grabbed it and used it. And when I got in the lobby there were not even 20 carts. One day was trying to push one the wheels were locked it's the new device on the wheels that lock when you take the cart so far from the store. Looks like the device they installed to save money and to stop people from stealing shopping carts is not working. I never understood why people steal shopping carts, anyway, just makes no sense. Any other stores have this issue? And have the device I mentioned?
I'm sure the bascart manufacture has had production issues just like everyone else. Yes, I have seen some Kroger stores have covered corrals. You just rang a bell; they should just leave the carts out under the corral at the stores with the covers. But one concern, the managers always start fussing when there is a tornado warning because carts could go flying across the parking lot. This corral covers could start flying tying them down bolting them down is now going to stop mother nature. Also, nothing outside is safe in 2017 Hurricane Irma It came over central Georgia and it blew over a canopy at a gas station. So really nothing outside is safe. Sorry, this got off topic, but it is my post and is a little related.

Yes, if the carts were loose they could cause a lot of damage, but in cases of extreme weather they could always be brought into the store or chained/locked together. With most things, one solution is going to cause other side effects, but overall it might be a good solution. The problem is like everything else, unless everyone does it the 1st one to do it always has a black eye. Its like eliminating plastic bags, no one is really against it, but no one really want's to be the 1st to completely eliminate it.

Sounds like my store. But for now at least we have carts. I think N it's the clientele we have. The homeless take the carts and use them to hold their weird belongings and even use them as a makeshift bbq.
On the rare occasions they had me get carts when it was low, I took my apron off to get a rare single cart for a customer. I did this to prevent some other customer take it from me. I just removed my apron, found a cart and delivered it to the customer asking for it ignoring all the "here, I'll take its." Gotten slot of irritated glances but what can you do?

Ours had those devices installed several months ago. When you come into the back area of the property, there's a pile of shopping carts just sitting there like some weird art deco display.
Like a shopping cart graveyard of sorts. Because when some idiots tried to take the carts off the property the wheels locked.
Shopping carts are high theft and company is tired of covering the lost costs.
Shopping carts have been behind the Kroger I worked at every since I left in late 2019. They are piled up by the trailer that stays there. Also the trash dumpster (not compactor) the dumpster that other tenants use was cleaned up but a few days ago it had bags piled up around it. The fenced area where the grease trap is and this should be a violation because it
is now Winter and all that trash and bags will cause rats. And used to the city dump truck would come and raise the dumpster and empty it. If gate is closed he would get out and once emptied he never got back out and closed the gate it stayed wide open. And I know it was not his job but someone should have got the bags up after he emptied it. Not sure why the bags are even on the ground I know it is great clips most of it. They told me once it was not their trash but the lady was lying through her teeth because the bags had hair in them. That is why I have not been back to Great Clips they can shove it just like Kroger and stick it where the sun don't shine.

Yes, I am quoting myself here just want to add this. It seems every time I go by the store. More and more carts are behind the store parked where I was told NOT to put them. And less and less carts for customers to use I do not know what is going on at my old Kroger. But a lady was walking around with another employee Tuesday. She had a name tag on, but it was around her neck. I asked another employee who she was and was told she was a manager from another store helping out with the zone staff.
And when I was leaving there was an older man puching carts behind the store. He also had a name tag around his neck. I heard those things that lock the wheels will lock for no reason.
