My store manager is a fraud to force customers at closing time. Mean while tills are pulled, sco closed. Customers are bi-tching up a storm about not being able to buy anything. Sorry but that's not how the business world works. All customers out at closing time. N.c. can harass the stragglers to get out after that. Now that all tills are pulled due to closing we don't even have one open. I generally leave one sco terminal open for n.c. but that might end up getting closed to not encourage lingering after closing.
The process needs staggered. Start announcing the closing time an hr before. At the bottom of the hr start making rounds and politely but firmly reminding folks they're on count down, and to please finish up their shopping. Then repeat it at 30, 20, and 10 minutes before.
20 minutes before 0 hr lock the front doors. Let peeps out as needed. This isn't hard, it just needs consistent attention.

HAHA, if the stores closes at 11PM, the doors get locked at 11PM, you can't lock the doors early. But with that being said, made announcements at 1 hours, 45 mins., 30mins., 15mins., 10mins., 5mins., closed. There should be a Cashier/SCO clerk scheduled until at least 15 mins after the door is locked. Hell, this process isn't hard, but it annoying if your the one going it day in and day out.
We lock the doors 5 min to closing. If we locked doors exactly at closing, we would NEVER get out. Not sorry, but that's how we run things. We need time to pull the tills and get them secure. I know balancing takes some time, but that is usually done in the AM before the store opens. By the time doors are unlocked, the fresh tills are in the checkstands ready to go.
