Is it common for Kroger to not hire you after telling you you got the job?

Like seriously, I went to Kroger last Wednesday after applying online, got an interview, and was told I got the job. The manager said I'd get a call letting me know when orientation was after my background check finished. Flash forward and it's been nearly a week since my background check finished (it finished last Thursday) and I still haven't been told anything about orientation. I called this Monday just to see what was going on but the manager was in hurry and just said he'd call me back later. Several days later and... still nothing. Is it common for them to just end up not hiring you even after telling you that you were hired during the interview? Do I even have a shot at getting a job here anymore or should I just move on?

I would just show up in person and ask about orientation. It sounds like you got hired. Or you could say "I'm here for my orientation." A nice way of saying "Let's get a move on and hurry it up." Maybe the manager did forget honestly to call. By asking in person may send a message to the manager that you are interested in the job.

I would think if your unable to be hired a letter or email would automatically be sent after you background check was completed. I'm guessing the store you applied at doesn't have a specific person that does the hiring process, so its a secondary task for them. In reality, if your in the area, stop by and ask about orientation in the next few days. If you just had your interview last Wednesday, giving them at least until his weekend for next steps is appropriate. If your background passed and they are not making it a priority to get you in the store, I would keep applying places and not look back. I have know some Hiring Managers to call people after a 2 weeks and then get upset they found a different job.

Do not go. Work anywhere else but Kroger.

Managers are always in a hurry because of the chaos the company uses as a smoke screen. No one can ever tell what is going on, so investigators may have a hard time developing evidence of anything but a general atmosphere of intimidation. Sounds like something was found in your background check. Nothing bad, probably, but they have gotten burned by people with a history of standing up for themselves or others, law enforcement, investigators sent by law firms, so they want to be real careful.

Look, you didn't get it. Not being a dick, and there's no telling why or what went wrong, but you got passed up.

Consider it a gift from the universe and move on. This was a bullet you dodged.

Heres a life tip for you. No one cares. Especially at this place. I had to constantly ask the asst store manager wtf are my hours for next week. This went on for almost 3 months. Keep calling they will tell you to come in or better yet go down there and ask for the dumbass HR.

File an ethics report against them. You were offered a job but not told you got it. Then fired and didn't even know it. By law they're to inform you within a reasonable time frame usually (72hrs) if you got the job or not. I job hunting I've learned to move on after 5 days of zero communication with one company. That tells me they don't want me.

Eh, let it go and keep applying elsewhere.

If they can't even tell if you if you are hired yet for minimum-wage dead-end no-skills part-time-only wagecuckery, are you sure your parents really would want you to work there?

If anything, you might have already been fired for not showing up.

Not joking.

I mean itsba garbage job with garbage pay and mangers who like to lick each

others asses. You should go work there for the following reasons

Free snacks - feel free to eat stuff off the shelves dont worry about paying.

Free stuff - need some batteries for that Xbox controller? Or some candy for a movie night popcorn too? Take it, its free.

Customer 5 gold star standard service - Feel free to tell the first customer who mouths off to you to fu-ck off and kiss your ass from top to bottom. Show them verbally you really care.

Assuming your background went ok, there may be no one available to do your on boarding.  call and ask to speak to the AA not a member of management. Theres usually only two people with access to hiring, one specific manager who might not be the one that interviewed you and the AA.
