I asked because there's gossip about me, too. Seems like nobody likes to fact check anything. People just believe everything and anything except when there's rat and mice in the store until they see one or more.

I am on my way to Kroger. The store better be fully stocked and no out of stocks. If I have to go look in the stockroom and get something. Everyone will be fired store will be locked and keys thrown away. If you refuse to leave the Police will escort you out.

I would like to add onto what i386 said. Besides ignoring the gossiping, keep quiet about it and work a little harder than they do. It will drive them nuts and cause them to keep it up. Eventually, they will quit by either being told to stop or realizing that there's no effect.
I listen to it but I dont even respond to gossip. Some of it is interesting and funny but most of it is just plain stupid. Our store seemingly has "all rights" to gossip. For example:
1. Go on vacation for a week or more=Got arrested, hospitalized, grew 3 heads, joined the mafia, death's door etc
2. Out for mandatory 2 wk quarentine=infected with Ebola, have cancer, in witness protection program
That's only SOME of the gossip you may here. Alot of it is usually how Girl A is screwing some guy in another dept and her partner is going around calling her a slut or Girl B is causing problems with Girl A's partner spreading lies because she has a crush on Girl A but Girl A has no interest in Girl B because Girl A is with her partner.
Try telling that to people where I work. Deli dept is what I call "popcorn dept. On any given day you can grab a chair, popcorn, favorite drink, lap blanket, and watch the gossip unfold.

Some people act like it from district staff on down. The childish games Ive seen over the years. SMH. Someone made a comment about me awhile back and I called them out. They got upset, yelling at me and will talk to everyone but me. Everyone friendly and caring? Come on now.
Most of us are busy and just listening for information that isn't fantasy. Company encourages gossip stupidly by providing endless supplies of steaming nonsense that is soon forgotten. It encourages it more maliciously by protecting bullies. If you find yourself being harassed in this or any other way, get the message. You need a better job.

If it gets out of control I ask management to end it. They've had to a few times because they started spreading rumors about me that weren't true and it affects your reputation.
