I'm going on vacation next week and mine said that. I think it's a way of telling the computer not to put you into the system that week when it's calculating the schedule. The main thing is to go to my schedule and look to see if the week you chose is all pink. Pink means unavailable. Green means available.
Vacation isn't always grunted as a honored request. If you put in for time off inform your department schedule writer. If there's enough coverage and not in a black out period you're fine. It'll go through. If you're in a department with limited staff or low in seniority it isn't guaranteed. I bought a plane ticket and hotel and it was a non refundable trip. I threatened to quit if they didn't honor it. They knew I was serious. They decided to honor it.
