The store manager is an idiot
Permalink

The store I'm at had a walk through recently.

It failed.

It didn't fail because of employees slacking off or anything like that. It failed because of this.

First, the goons that did the walk through were anal-retentive and nitpicked everything.

Second, the store is short-staffed.

Third, the store doesn't have the supplies we need so we can get anything done.

Fourth, if anything breaks, the manager lets it wait. Thankfully, nothing vital has gone kaput. Yet.

Now, our store is having another walk through coming up. And instead of addressing these problems, the idiot decides to scatter the employees to the four corners of the store and clean it with the lack of supplies. Or, do something in another department that those in said department can take care of. Also, if one of us tries to tell the idiot about these problems, the idiot won't listen.

It's such a concept. Run the store into the ground while it's already going there.

Based on what you describe it seems like he's juggling a lotta things that are out of his control and doing the best he can, all while tryhing to save his own job. That level of management is 100% blame game.

I think this is every store every time except for maybe a few corporate or Signature Stores.

OP here. You're half right. The thing is that the idiot lets things get out of control while he either sits in his loft or decides to both micromanage and mismanage. All it adds up to is everyone else being overworked and exhausted while the real problems are left to fester.

I would suggest filing with EthicsPoint, except HR does not care and in some cases encourages harassment.

Print the above out do not change anything do not put your name. You can use a fake name and use a random address drop it off at one of those mailboxes don't use yours. Send it to the zone office, The walk through is it coming from division office or zone office?

There isn't any need to mail anything. The idiot is already under scrutiny. As far as division or zone no one knows. It basically comes to this. The idiot isn't getting his way and is taking it out on all of the employees that are not at fault for the problems with the store.

OP here. Just recently the "manager" went from micromanaging and mismanaging idiot to micromanaging and mismanaging idiot abusing power. I come in for an opening shift and was getting ready to clear the lot. By the way I'm a courtesy clerk. My department head stopped me and said that the idiot wanted the lobby swept first. I go outside and see if the idiot's vehicle is there. It wasn't. So the idiot must have called the store before arriving. I had that happen once. I can let a lot of things slide but not this. So I plan to send this info to Ethics Point and both the division and zone offices as i386 suggested. The only setback is that I'm not sure what the addresses are. Can anyone help provide any info? The store I work at is in the Louisville division if that helps.

In reality, if your Store Manager wasn't already concerned to make sure the outside, lobby and bathrooms were semi cleaned of picked up regularly they obviously should be eliminated. Most customers judge the store by those areas, and the area the first stops to be seen. Hell, while they might be trashed from time to time, unless you completely ignore them they shouldn't really be too horrible. Every store is experiencing the same issues you described, a Store Manager simply blaming everything on that, and their store a complete hot mess is going to be gone sooner then later.

I got this info from google

I think this may be the Zone Office from google maps it is a store address. Zone Offices are usually in Stores.

705 E. Main Street Lebanon, KY 40033

They both look like a Store so maybe that Division has an office in a Store. I know Atlanta Division has the Division in a Office Complex.

Please post back any response you get it would be interesting to see if you did use your real address if they mail you back.

That Manager also sounds like the Manager I last worked with. Maybe he came by the store and left for something before you got there.

Sometimes they drive around and check gas prices.

The idiot is actually concerned about the store being clean. What the idiot isn't concerned about is the lack of supplies and staff. And thought that the best way was to pile on more work on top of the work we already have to do. Short staffing and non-existent supplies while doubling the workload on someone else just because you are in trouble due to your own mistakes is really stupid.

I entered "Kroger ethicspoint address" on Google and allvoices came up in the search results. Clicked on the link and the site came up.

Understand, supplies are something completely controllable and if they are needed....order them...

The supplies are ordered. But the warehouse keeps scratching them and we have to expense them out. I can forgive that since it's not in anyone's control, management or otherwise, but having to get stuff off the aisle shelf day after day is going to hemorrhage the store's budget. I just don't like it.

I'll look for anything similar posted in the break room at my store. If there is then I'll use your advice from earlier and send an anonymous letter. This is the address I found.

Kroger Louisville Division Headquarters - Administrative Office

1600 Ormsby Station Ct, Louisville, KY 40223

It's normal for stores to be stressed out about walks. Months of slacking off and letting things go to cra--p can't be summed up in 5 days of panicking elbow grease trying to make the store some what passable for corporate. Mean while the managers are di--cks about it and the staff gets to suffer.

True. And in a normal setting we go through all of that. But the twist is that the idiot's job is on the line and we all have the feeling that the idiot will be let go.
