All jobs at all companies will be experiencing this to a varying degree.
This worker shortage is beyond real by this point, and places are shuffling those wage slaves they do still have insanely around to calk in the gaps.
This is the classic conundrum of a failing business: they raise prices to ridiculous levels that folks won't buy, thus sealing their own going-out-of-business fate. Same with working a skeleton crew to death, and furthering the mental damage by having them living in confusion and uncertainty----all pushed with FEAR

If your store is union they can't force you out of a position unless they have valid reason to do so.
It's good to shuffle people around. It gives people more skills and our union contract was recently changed to allow people to shuffle between departments minus meat and management. I'm frankly getting a little peeved that I keep getting denied cross training and the position goes to a dumb ass new hire that's their first job ever and I've been with this company 20 yrs. I'm enacting plan b and going to get my aff out of this cra-pp hole of a company.

Do you mean you hope they are changing? No one can really answer that. But Kroger does do that sometimes. And As far as moving people I would not know why. Maybe people are not performing, and current management is moving them instead of firing them to see if they do better.

Yes, please ask it will not hurt.
I wonder if union gonna step up and do the right thing. I pray to OP they put them back to their old department.Front end is not for the weak.
