I'm a courtesy clerk who does the opening shifts. On the weekdays there is also a cashier who has the opening shifts. And for some reason this cashier has gotten the uppity notion that I'm their personal assistant and not an employee of this company. Some of the highlights of their uppity attitude are:
I shouldn't bounce. I'm supposed to be at their checklane unless I'm going on break/lunch or out for lot duty. No matter how many other lanes are open and I'm the only courtesy clerk there. Isnt going from lane to lane part of the job?
I'm not allowed to leave their lane if the self-scan cashier or floor supervisor or management needs me to do something. The self-scan cashier can't leave, the floor supervisor, be it one of the leads or the regular supervisor overrides the cashiers and management overrides them all.
When they come down to help me finish the order if need be, I have to have the other bag well ready for them to use. I can't have stuff in the bag nor am I to start to put stuff in the bag when they start to come down. I have to use it. But they cant wait or just put the bag in the cart themselves.
I have to bag it their way only. They have never been a courtesy clerk at all. What do they know?
This cashier has already complained about me twice just because I was doing the job that this company expects of me instead of being their personal assistant. The main front end lead wasn't there the first time but was the second time and not only found out but ripped into the cashier about it. I don't know how things are going to be next weekday shift but I do know this. If this happens one more time then I'm done. I'm going to look into another department where I can still have the opening shifts, even if I have to do utility.
Next time it happens, tell that cashier you're not their personal assistant. Don't let them push you around. If the cashier has already made a complaint about you, then why don't you do the same. You didn't mention the sex of the cashier, but it sounds like a woman. They tend to be the more bossy, bitchy types.

OP here. This cashier has already been reprimanded by the department lead. And I talked to the assistant lead that should anything happen again I'm going to have a talk with both of them and find out about being transferred.
The checker did not hire you, nor gives you your paycheck. Your store manager does..the checker cannot fire you. If it is super busy and other checkers require a bagger then go bag for them once your order is done and there is not a big one behind the one you are working on. Do not be afraid of "overstepping your bounds" by leaving the checker when the no longer need help. (A small.order does NOT require help...they CAN bag 10-20 items by themselves.
What is this checker going to do when you go on vacation?
Sounds like this checker is LAZY af and would even require that you wipe his/her/their a$$ as well if they could.

Point made.

It doesn't matter the size of the order if I'm the only courtesy clerk. I have to bounce.

Again, point made. And to expand on it, that also includes any task that anyone with seniority above this cashier asks me to do. Basically put, if I have to, then I have to.
What is this checker going to do when you go on vacation?
I don't give two anal expulsions. They can piss and moan all they want.
Sounds like this checker is LAZY af
I've got to counterpoint here. They're not entirely lazy. They just don't want to do certain things that are required.
and would even require that you wipe his/her/their a$$ as well if they could.
Nope. I'll toss a roll of toilet paper at them even if I was a personal assistant. I have to draw the line somewhere.
I'd report this to management. I had this issue once when working at a location. I brought it up with management that none of my other job duties were getting done not even cart runs. Not able to bounce to other lanes and assist. They coached the cashiers that they could not hold me hostage at their station entire shift. I also alerted them at how demeaning some of them were and couldn't even comfortably assist them any longer.

Let the cashier do it themselves. They sound lazy af. If they "cry" because they "can't (won't) do somethings themselves then maybe its time the " widdle checker thinks about going home or back to preschool."
Maybe their mommy and daddy can force them to go back if need be. Lazy childish cashier.

Actually that cashier has been sweeter than peach ice-cream towards me and not once has there been retaliation of any sort from anyone. And you're a lower than snake **** troll.
This is why they can't keep c.c.'s. C.c's are generally treated like garbage even though your job is more essential than the cashier. When cashiers get removed and replaced with sco setup like walmart in 2-3 yrs they'll be fighting for hrs just to make ends meet. I ran into the same issue and had to transfer to a high grossing store to get f.t. hrs. I got stagnated into c.c. until I did a union grievance for refusal to allow med to low functioning individuals to do anything but that. yes c.c.'s are treated like garbage by employees and society. You get very little respect for the job you do but if you don't do it you get scolded, demeaned, belittled and treated like cr--ap. This is why they can't get more than temp summer help for c.c.'s or retiaries that are just looking for health insurance because they're bored as heck at home. Or the flakiest of society that can't hold jobs. I mean correct me if I'm wrong. You know I'm right. This kind of work is no longer an "opportunity" as three generations ago would call it. This is a hell hole go no where job.
I've worked real jobs before and the market is annoying. I got into the habit of changing employment every 3-5 yrs just because after working anywhere long enough you realize how ****ty most places are. Without unions most employment you're lucky if you can even make it that long. One slip, oops, if and or but or if management decides they don't like you they'll find a reason to remove you from company. Unions they can't do this shi--t. I'm in my 40's and just want a steady job until retirement knowing my employment will be the same 15 yrs from now.

Get a life. If you think every post on this website is a troll stop coming here. I maybe visit this website twice a week if even that. Depends on if something about my company is bugging me.
Did you get banned from the kroger reddit site for thinking that too? (fyi I didn't.) I only come here because there's some shi--t I need to post occasionally that wouldn't see the light of day on r/kroger.
