Bereavment pay isn't extra pay you receive just because there's a death in the family. It's given because you missed work. A part time person doesn't lose as many hours as a full time person when they go to a funeral. It's also easier to re-schedule a part time person's hours. If you go to a funeral or visitation on your off day, you're not going to receive bereavment pay. That applies to full time people too. My contract says, "Part-time employees who have completed one (1) year or more of continuous servce with the Employer shall be paid straight time pay for scheduled hours off through the day after the funeral but not to exceed three (3) scheduled workdays." So you only get paid if you were scheduled to work.
