If in my area the stores I work at are closed after 6 pm yes. Closed Christmas too. I honestly refuse to work thanksgiving and charismas. I'll work the rest of the holidays for the pay as we don't really celebrate anything else. Growing up we use to but got sick of it. We decided they weren't for us and moved on.
Louisville stores close at 5:00. It's always been that way for as long as I've worked there, and I'm going on 35 years. It's probably been that way since stores started staying open 7 days a week. Stores used to be closed on Sundays. So if Christmas Eve fell on a Sunday, everyone would be off Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
We close at 6pm on Christmas Eve. My cousin works at another Kroger and they are open until 5pm. They have him scheduled 9am to 1pm but Christmas is strictly voluntary. With that being said, he's decided to do a no call no show that day. They never asked him and he NEVER signed up.
If they TRY to write him up, he said he'd just contact the union and that write up is as good as gone.
