Oh, how I hate store remodels. Store has been literally under construction for about 2 years. At the beginning of the month company shut down two departments because they're gutting them and remolding them. Staff found hrs at other stores or are working other jobs. I highly doubt we'll get the before the remodel staff back. You can't go 2 months without income and people are liking their new locations more.

Which two departments? I've been through probably a dozen remodels and I have never seen them completely shut down a department. For our last major remodel and expansion, it was like a game of musical chairs. It started out by getting rid of our breakroom and making the managers' office a temporary breakroom until a new one was built. With the empty space available, they could shuffle things around. Produce got moved 3 or 4 different times before finding a permanent home. Other departments got compressed into areas a fraction of their normal size so they could do demolition and construction in that area. Meat department was the only section that stayed put. They just got bigger.
Some people get comfortable enough in a bad situation and tough it out for a long time. May the incentive to go elsewhere pay off with many good examples! I never experienced a major remodel, just consolidation of departments during the vivid thing so people who are required to social distance are also having to practically climb over each other.
2 months into the remodel we only have like 2 staff left and that's because they've been reassigned to other areas. I doubt we'll see any of the staff before the remodel back. Catch 22 store lost 2 registers (we never use them except for sundays and holidays) so customers will b--itch that the lines in the register are longer. Oh, but you have a large coffee stand now so you can get extra coffee choices.
Department is now reopen and they lost half the staff due to the 2 mo closure. 2 transferred to larger stores to get hours. When you work a job like this you can't go that long without pay. 2 quit because they didn't like getting <30 hrs a week. No structure and the esced being down left and right.
