An employee just up and goes back to their home country and last minute enacted fmla. We still need to be respectful because of the situation. They quoted "No eta of return." Company policy gives 3 days for local and a week for non-local. How do we address managment to get us a filler until they return? Our department quickly went from 5 staffed to 2 staffed. The new my time system can't even give the 2 active employees decent hours. Generally when employees up and ghost a position it means they're not comming back. I understand one side is the humanitarian side and you need to respect that but at the same time you're running a business and you can't have a department of no one on those days.

You're not running a business. Kroger is. It's not your problem if the department is understaffed. Do what you are scheduled to do and leave. If management makes it hard on you, quit and make it that much worse for them. I'm sure the remaining employee will be right behind you.
