I'd bring this up with management because he is not the "manager". My company keeps having issues with cashiers pretending to "be in charge" and you can report them to management. They have zero power over you.
Your asl is really shooting him self in the foot on this one because he should be getting temp pay of an sm but is not ever going to get it. He's basically being a di--ck to staff and there's no reason for it.
Ethics report is encouraged. Union call as well but I'm not sure what they can do unless your asl is violating union clauses.
