I work for Kroger in the Louisville district and have been employed there for about 3 months. I have never been offered to sign up for the union and I have asked multiple times for information on it, and am always told why join the union then you pay dues right now you you're making more money cause you don't pay dues, but is my right to have the option of being a part of the union, I am the only one in my department not a part of the union, when i was hired my children were out of school for the summer, i stipulated that during summer months i would have open availability and that when school started back up my availability would change, school starts on Monday and i turned in my change of availability 2 weeks ago stating i would be available from 11am-5pm mon-fri. and open availability for sat & sun. the schedule was just posted for next week and i am scheduled everyday 8am-4:30pm, there is so much drama that is driving multiple associates from the department I'm in to look for other employment, i feel like maybe I'd be better off to turn in my 2 weeks and just find other employment. what is your advice. . .i need a job with 3 kids but i don't need or want to deal with all this nonsense (my timecard shows the time for my 2 "paid" breaks being taken from my hours worked if they are paid why am i being docked the time)

Regarding breaks, if you take a break for longer than 18 minutes, it counts it as a 30 minute lunch. If you want stay with Kroger and join the union, you need to talk to your stores union steward.  My advice though is to start looking elsewhere.

This evil company does not respect union contracts, state or federal law. Get out of there. The union could help a little, if it chooses to. If you have difficulty finding a real job go union for sure.
