Someone in our store got suspended for an incident that didn't happen-some questions
Permalink

One of our cashiers got suspended for an incident that didn't happen. Store manager asked her if she had a witness, which she did (the opening casher.) Supervisor forced said opening cashier to sign a statement saying the incident happened when she knew it didn't. Some questions:

1. Is it normal for a supervisor to involve another employee in a disciplinary issue with another co-worker?

2. Could the cashier get into trouble for signing a statement she knew wasn't true?

3. Union is taking this VERY seriously-the cashier that was suspended didn't have to go to a meeting as Union rep escalated the next day to Regional HR (which has jurisdiction over firing/suspending store supervisors.)

******

I am just hearing this second-hand, some details may differ as I was not a witness but heard this via a third party. This happened in the Local 1996 Atlanta GA area

Managers are safe. Cashier is probably 95% guilty and should be terminated

Not in this store. There have been several that have forced to transfer to a different store, and our former regional HR rep (JN)  was demoted to a Store Manager position for ineffective handling of an employee complaint and a former Store Manager was demoted to a "field position" (because she had demonstrated inability to get along with store employees.) One customer service rep was told to transfer to a different store or be fired due to harassment of another employee. Another produce manager was also forced to transfer out due to a religious discrimination charge. So at least in that store, if you want to do something unethical, you will be held accountable for it.

This story is amazing and makes me wonder how different GA could be.  The union took an interest?!  I'm used to thinking of this company as a lawless, senseless bunch of sneaky hoodlums.  People who are violent and paranoid.  Making false statements is a way of life for them.  If they don't get their way and everybody does not keep their mouths shut I would expect retaliation.

Store Manage told the employee in question to call the Union!!

To answer number 1: It's very normal BUT COULD BE DANGEROUS. An female employee has to came face to face with an biological male employee stalking her to the women's restroom pass the handwash station.

To answer number 2: Get union rep involve as soon as possible. Never sign anything unless union rep is there.

I am pretty sure the Union rep was NOT there when the cashier was possibly (?) forced/coerced into signing that statement.

Im pretty sure the cashier was guilty and they full well knew they got caught. No rep was needed and hopefully the fraud was terminated.

I wish an regional HR was demoted in my area. She's so corrupted. She will email customers and her circle of extreme right group to harass me.

The third party here. Cashier in question got a message from the Union saying Kroger wants to do a "virtual" hearing. I would NEVER allow Kroger access to my computer if it was me. Message went back to the Union asking to reschedule for an in-person meeting when available. As an uninvolved third party this sounds very suspicious to do a virtual meeting unless it has to do with the Labor Day weekend and people possibly being out of town. What do you all think-I have never heard of this happening before.

Contact the union rep. When an incident happens they pull the security feed. I know a few people I've worked with that were wrongfully terminated for **** like this. File an ethics report too. The more ethics reports they get the company should dictate it's fake. Remember you are not forced to sign anything.

3rd party here. Cashier in question got the meeting moved to an in-person meeting. There is not audio on that store's security feed and I suspect the 24 year old scheduler is trying to make her career out of this situation. Shouldn't the cashier that signed the statement saying this incident happened have had a Union rep or witness with her? AFAIK there was none and there is possible coersion from the supervisor in question. Admin said cashier that signed could "possibly get into trouble." Thanks for the post!!
