Our lead throws out a ton of food and most of it is very donatable according to our standards. How can I get it in their head that food banks really need this stuff and even if it is expired by less than a week they'll still take it. If it's edible they'll take it. He doesn't seem to "understand this" and it's sickening how our department is failing on the "zero waist" promise.

Actually, you can.  It depends on what it is.  Bakery items can be donated up to three days past their sell by date.  You just can't sell them past the sell by date.

If it's a legitimate charity, they have a written agreement with Kroger specifying what can and can't be donated.  By accepting donations, they waive their right to sue.

No need to donate. The food is expired and wont taste fresh or can have bacteria. Please cry elsewhere or start your own business and eat the cost of donating.
